The device measuring capacity is made as a photometric hemisphere separated from the sample vial for flour by an optically transparent glass plate. Light stream from the green light emitting diode falls onto the flour perpendicularly to the plate, and the scattering radiation, which occurred as a result of multiple reflections from the flour and hemisphere, gets onto the photoelectric receiver whose electric signal is shown on the digital indicator where the measuring results are displayed.

Flour sample of about 20g is placed into the gaging ring, which is preliminary set in the cylinder of the brightness meter. Flour should be added until its upper layer covers the round mark on the gaging ring. Then, the compactor, which is supplied with the device, should be placed onto the flour. The display readout shown on the indicator is recorded and the used flour is deleted. Upon repeating the mentioned above procedure once again, the second report is registered.

Brightness of the flour under control is determined as arithmetic average of measuring results of the two samples taken from one specimen rounded to the nearest whole number. Tolerance in weight of the two samples should not exceed one unit of the display readout, which corresponds to one standard unit of the device. In case of a higher deviation, the analysis should be repeated.

  • It is designed for quick determination of flour grade due to its whiteness, in accordance with GOST R 52189–2003;
  • The device is placed in a small case with its weight of only 15kg, so it can easily be carried to the measurement place and applied both under the laboratory and workshop conditions;
  • There are no moveable parts in the whiteness meter which increases its reliability and measurement accuracy, and the simplicity of the device doesn’t require special qualifications from the operator;
  • Technical characteristics of the device surpass in many respects the characteristics of whiteness meters from other manufacturers.
